For many of our guests, experiencing Nekupe goes beyond the beauty of the property, as part of their stay, they want to experience Nicaraguan culture too. For those guests, our evenings often turn toward something equally rich: the culture of Nicaragua itself.<\/p>\n

One of the ways we love to share that culture with our guests is through dance.<\/p>\n

A Living Tradition<\/h2>\n

Nicaraguan folklore dance is a storytelling art form, passed down through generations, that captures the country’s history, its indigenous and colonial roots, and the daily life of its people. Dancers dressed in vibrant, hand-embroidered costumes move to the sound of marimba, performing pieces that reenact everything from courtship rituals to harvest celebrations to the legends that shape Nicaraguan identity.<\/p>\n

It’s colorful, it’s joyful, and it’s a world away from anything most of our guests have seen before.<\/p>\n

Sacuanjoche: Dance as Cultural Ambassador<\/h2>\n

To bring this tradition to life at Nekupe, we partner with Sacuanjoche Escuela de Danza<\/strong>, a local folklore dance school and troupe named after Nicaragua’s national flower, the sacuanjoche, a delicate white-and-yellow blossom (plumeria) that has become a symbol of Nicaraguan pride and beauty.<\/p>\n

The dancers of Sacuanjoche are devoted to preserving and performing the country’s traditional dances, and they bring that passion directly to our guests. During select stays, the troupe performs on-site at Nekupe, giving guests a front-row seat to an authentic cultural experience: no theater, no staged tourist show, just real dancers sharing a real tradition in the heart of the Nicaraguan countryside.<\/p>\n
