When Nekupe was envisioned, its founders began not with architecture, but with ecology. Before a single structure was designed, the question being asked was: what does this land need? What was here before, and how do we bring it back?<\/p>\n

Planted across Nekupe’s 2,400 acres in Nicaragua’s Pacific countryside, those trees were the first act of what would become one of the most quietly ambitious conservation projects in the region. Nekupe’s founders worked with local ecologists and land stewards to identify native species<\/strong>, to understand the watershed, to rebuild the habitat that had been eroded over decades of agricultural use.<\/strong><\/p>\n
They built reservoirs:<\/strong>\u00a0not for aesthetics, but because the wildlife needed them<\/strong>. They established an animal sanctuary, because a reserve is only as alive as the creatures that inhabit it. They planted a 13,000-square-foot organic garden, both to feed guests with what the land could honestly offer, and to demonstrate that fertility, properly tended, is inexhaustible.<\/p>\n
What emerged from all of this was Nekupe: a reserve that is simultaneously an ultra-luxury private reserve and working conservation ecosystem<\/strong>. A place where the ratio of staff to guests is five to one, not because it is extravagant, but because attention, real, human, unhurried attention, is the thing that makes a place feel alive.<\/p>\n

Nekupe exists within the broader ethos and the belief that prosperity and stewardship are not in tension. That a place can be exceptional for its guests precisely because it is responsible to its land and its people.<\/p>\n
This is not greenwashing. It is the original intention.<\/h3>\n
The trees were planted before the rooms were built. The sanctuary came before the spa. The commitment to the land predates the commitment to the guest \u2014 and that order of priority is exactly what makes the guest experience at Nekupe unlike anything else in the world.<\/p>\n
